Hi All,

Got the following question from member Sandra:

I should be receiving the myofusion tomorrow and I drank some whey protein this afternoon, which I have to admit was so delicious, I could drink it all day.  I used 1 1/2 cups of almond breeze, one cup of frozen peaches 1 scoop of protein and three ice cubes and it made double of what I started off with.  Should I have drank the whole thing at once?  I drank 1/2 of it 40 minutes before my workout today and the other 1/2 right after.  (only because I wasn't sure how much of it I was supposed to drink, I didn't want to overdose or something, ha ha)

Thank you for  all of the information you've given me.  It's been really helpful and I just want to make sure that I get the most out of this.  I'm afraid that if I do this wrong and don't see any results, I'm going to be very discouraged and give up.  That's why I need to do this right.

But when would I take the whey protein?  Since i'll be working out at around 3:30PM (which is when I will take the myfusion, pre and post workout) I'm thinking maybe I should take my whey in the morning??

Let's talk about when you take in protein and how much.  Sandra is using both a basic whey protein and Gaspari's Myofusion protein blend.  These are great products for anyone to use.  I like to take in protein 45 - 60 minutes pre workout, immediately post workout and pre bedtime in the form of Myofusion although you can use whey protein if that's all you have.  The reason for taking in protein pre workout is to prime your muscles to be able to work out hard.  Now most of the women here (and, actually most of the men) will tell you they want to lose weight.  But really want we want to do is burn fat while actually building a little muscle (maybe a lot of muscle if you are a guy).    The thing you may not be fully aware of is that the body will burn available sugar first (glycogen) and then often, rather than burning fat, will start to canabalize muscle because it is generally easier for the body to convert amino acids into needed fuel than to use fat.  By loading up with easily absorbed protein, we flood the system with amino acids so we can work our muscles hard and not have our bodies canabalize them.

Then right after you work out, your body is primed to absorb nutrients.  Now if you want to lose weight, you'll want to use Myofusion protein which is easily absorbed without much carbohydrate.   I'll mix in just a bit (about 1/2 cup or 4oz) of skim milk for taste.  This will add a modest amount of additional protein and carb but the formula is still geared to be quickly absorbed in a fat burning state.

If you work out in the early morning, then use the larger, serving of Myofusion protein as your breakfast.  If you work out in mid morning, take in a Myfusion shake and perhaps some low glycemic carbs (I like to eat a Thomas brand high fiber low calorie English muffin with a bit of sugar free apricot preserve on top).  Skip a pre-workout shake and then take another serving of Myofusion post workout and eat a low carb, light lunch.

If you work out in the afternoon as Sandra does, eat a light lunch then take a 1/2 serving of Myofusion 1 hour before working out and a full serving after working out.
