Eating Right – Avoid Temptation with a Little Planning
Eating Right – Avoid Temptation with a Little Planning
Dec 22nd, 2009 | By Coach Nancy | Category: Living the Fit Life, Nutrition & Weight LossOne of the biggest challenges of living a fit lifestyle is to eat right. The temptations abound for those who work at home and those who work in an office or other place outside the home. The key is to have plenty of packaged foods that meet your nutritional needs while still tasting good. You avoid temptation with a little planning.
I like nutrition bars because they are so easily portable. Many have a really good balance of protein, carbs and fats. And the best of the bunch taste really good while being affordable. Here are a few of my current favorites:
Zone Perfect Bars
Zone Perfect bars tend to run about 200 calories each and have a 30/40/30 protein/carb/fat balance. The bars can be purchased in boxes of 5 (sometimes I find them with an extra bar included) and cost just under $1 each. Here are the flavors I like:
Chocolate Mint: This tastes a lot like a Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookie. It just has more substance to it and it is actually good for you.
Double Dark Chocolate & Dark Chocolate Cookies and Cream: I like both of these. I don’t discern a lot of difference between them from a taste perspective.
Cinnamon Roll: Good for morning snacks.
Chocolate Caramel Cluster: I just love caramel. This is pretty good.
Snickers
I know it sounds just a little weird but Snickers makes some really good nutrition bars.
Caramel Nut Rush: This bar has more calories at 290 but at 20 grams of protein it’s a great selection for guys who need the extra protein. Tastes kind of like a Snickers bar – not exact but a good snack. Also has 10 grams of fiber. I can get 6 in a box for just under $7 for the box.
Dark Chocolate Crunch: I kid you not this smaller bar tastes a lot like a Nestle Crunch bar. One of my favorites, this bar has only 150 calories. 11 grams of protein and contains 18 vitamins and minerals. I cannot find these sold in boxes so I have to buy them singly at about $1 each.
So there you go. I’ve listed quite a few bars all reasonably priced and all pretty tasty. I buy my bars at Walmart and some flavors over at Super Target. And with the number of bars, you won’t get tired of eating the same old bar day after day.
