I still hate yoga – but I do it anyway

It’s now been 4 years since I started my first round of P90X. WOW – it doesn’t seem that long! But part of P90X is a day of yoga. When I was doing P90X, I hated the Yoga X workout. It is 90 minutes long and I could not do many of the exercises.
Fast forward 4 years and I still hate yoga. I really do. My comfort level continues to stay with lifting heavy weight and/or doing some HIIT (high intensity interval training – also referred to by others as burst training). And to be honest, I’ve long since given up on Yoga X. 90 minutes is just too long of an exercise routine I don’t care for. But I do still include some yoga each week. Some weeks I do X2 yoga from P90X2 which is only about an hour long (today’s workout) and other weeks I’ll do the short Les Mills Flow yoga workout which is only about 20 minutes.
As we get older, we lose flexibility and often balance so it’s important to work on those things. Yoga is perfect for improving both flexibility and balance. I feel better after a yoga workout too. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve stretched out my tight muscles, brought my spine into better alignment, or if it’s something mental that happens due to the poses and the breath. I don’t care – I like the energized yet relaxed feeling.
You’d think that I’d like yoga more since I always feel good after I’m done. But I still start each session wishing there was something faster and more intense than the slow and deliberate poses that comprise yoga. I guess I’ll probably always feel that way but I’ll keep on doing yoga anyway!
