If I want to lose weight, should I do the ‘Classic’ or ‘Lean’ P90X routines?Oct 2nd, 2010 | By Nancy Andrews | Category: P90X FAQ
It’s tempting to think that if you want to lose weight you should do the ‘lean’ version of P90X. I’m a woman who wanted to lose weight and I was interested in the lean version until I carefully read through it.
Here’s the issue, the lean version will do little to increase muscle mass. And while that may not sound bad to a gal or guy who thinks they just want to drop some poundage, it overlooks the fact that muscle is biologically more active tissue which helps you burn more calories over time. Also, more muscle will pull you in and round you out in just the right places.
The lean program would be fine for someone who had significant muscle and wanted to just lean up a bit but if that’s your goal, I’d rather see you sign up for the Insanity program.
So if weight loss and toning are your goals, my recommendation is that you start with the Classic program for Phase 1. Once you tone up a bit, if you really want to drop more fat, go to the ‘Doubles’ program where you add in Cardio X on your 3 weight lifting days. Also keep your carbs a bit lower and you’ll see dramatic results!Google+
