Reversing 30 Years of Neglect with P90X

This month we are featuring Bob’s success with P90X. Bob is in his early 50′s and had not worked out seriously in almost 30 years. Like many of us, years of neglect had taken its toll. Bob found that his muscles had atrophied and while his overall weight wasn’t that bad, he had accumulated a lot of fat in the stomach area. He had, unfortunately developed the ‘apple’ shape that doctors warn against.
Bob decided to give P90X a try. Due to questionable knees and a rotator cuff injury that had caused his left arm to atrophy at a high rate, he had to move slowly with P90X. Some days he would do a weight work out (best as he could) and have to leave Ab Ripper X for the next day.
Here’s Bob’s progress after 30 days:

Bob realizes that it will take him more than 1 round of P90X to get where he wants to be physically. But doing what he can – even when it means doing many of the push ups from his knees to get all the reps in – will pay off. And that’s a winning attitude we should all adopt!

I am 66 have had cancer and need desperately to get into shape. Used to run but can’t for my knees are really bad with arthritis. WIll this P90x program be too much for me.
Hi Marge,
P90X is a tough program but it’s one where you can make modifications in the beginning. My suggestion is to see if you can do push ups from your knees. If you can do 8 or more push ups from your knees, you could consider P90X. You will have to make modifications on all the workouts in the beginning. I had to make modifications on many of the workouts. I was doing push ups from my knees and I could not do pull ups when I started.
If doing push ups from your knees is not possible for you given your arthritis, then P90X is probably not for you – at least not at this time. Consider instead an easier workout like Slim in 6.
