P90x Week 2 – Yoga X
P90x Week 2 – Yoga X
Sep 15th, 2010 | By Coach Nancy | Category: P90X Transformation DiaryI have got to admit that I was not feeling it today. Low energy dogged me during yoga X. I’m not a big fan of yoga but that’s pretty much because I’m not very flexible. So I do it because Tony tells me to, not because I like it.
The 90 minute workout is getting slightly easier. There are still a few poses – like the Crane – that I just can’t do and with my injuries I may never be able to do these. Chris, however, did make a decent try with it.
Tomorrow is legs and back again. This gives me another chance to try to complete one full, unassisted pull up. I hate doing the assisted pull ups as they seem so much less than doing an unassisted one.

Update to Yoga X (Sept 5):
I wanted to come back to this entry. I have to admit that now that we’ve finished our 1st phase of P90X, I still dread yoga X. I wish it was shorter. I wish it was easier. As a 50 year old who has never been all that flexible, it’s hard for me. Having said that, both Chris and I continue to get better at this. Much better. I can’t say that doing yoga x has in any way been directly responsible for me getting to the point where I can do pull ups but it hasn’t hurt either. I think yoga is one of those disciplines that you either love or hate. But even if you hate it, I believe you should do it. I’ve been asked before if you really need to do the yoga in P90X and at this point, I’d have to say yes. Even if you are not flexible and even if it’s hard for you. Just do what you can and you will see improvements.

It was very encouraging to read this… I could BARELY do the first 40 mins of Yoga X and sweated like an animal the whole time. The second time I could do the poses better, but I STILL hate Yoga X. Anyhow, if you can do it, I suppose i can too. But geez…. For the next few hours… I still hate Yoga.
the problem with Yoga X is it is so darn repetitive and boring. I love yoga, I love p90x, but yoga x?….could live without it.
Hi DD
Almost everyone hates the yoga. Since I’ve been through P90X I will often replace the yoga with x-stretch.
Nancy
I just started p90x this week and got to Yoga X (day 4) and I stopped it after 10 min simply cause I hate it and I’m a stiff, but after reading this blog and some other I’m gonna hit play and continue. I’m sure I’m gonna hate to do this every week for the next 12 weeks, but I’m sure there is a purpose behind it!
Hi Chris,
While a few people really get into the yoga, the overwhelming majority of us don’t care for it. I did it the first round (less a few exercises that would have caused further injury to my broken neck) but now I use x-stretch. What you lose in x-stretch is the balance postures and some power moves. I do some balance work every week to make up for that.

I found yoga to be way too long and just can’t seem to get into it, finally yesterday (Thursday Week 7), I was feeling low in energy and stopped it on the first break (1/2 Hour). I have been doing P90X religeously since the start and haven’t skipped a day or stopped a program short until yesterday, I felt cheated. What I need to do is find a comperable replacement for it, not sure what to do. Got any Ideas?
Thanks,
~FLEX
Hi ‘Flex’
I think I’ve stated in an earlier response in this discussion thread that I have now replaced Yoga with x-stretch. X-stretch is not as good as yoga but is better than nothing.

I only lasted 40 minutes the first time I did this DVD. It killed me and I was very discouraged because I have never been very flexible. Last night, I did the Yoga X routine all the way through. There were a few moves that I just couldn’t do but I did my best and never gave up. This morning, I woke up feeling amazing. I feel very “loose” and relaxed. I’m 43 and I can tell you that I can’t remember feeling this good after any massage. I think that this is a breakthrough and I’m really looking forward to doing the Yoga X again next week to see how far I can progress. I recommend that people shouldn’t give up because it’s hard or boring. Keep with it and you will “feel” better in the long term.
Yeah! Good for you. Keep it up.
