Hi Luis,

Do P90X if you want to lose your gut. My husband had a big gut and was out of shape when he started P90X and now wears a 30" waist at age 53. P90X works so well because you add lean mass (muscle) while creating a negative calorie balance (increased exercise and reduced calories). In fact, recent research shows that resistance training burns fat for longer than even high intensity interval training post exercise. So you burn more fat after working out and you add muscle which raises your base level metabolism and has you burn more calories 24 hours a day. Be sure to check out my diet article at http://www.pressplayfitness.com/?p=2105. Eating right is really important.

Hi Michelle,

Definitely get started with P90X first. Why? To get the best transformation you need to build some lean mass. That's what P90X does while it takes the fat off of you. Insanity is a very high intensity program that is not for people who have been couch potatoes. It also doesn't build lean mass.

It's not that P90X is for beginners because it also is an extreme program, but you can modify P90X to adjust to your present fitness level while you can't do that with Insanity. Once you get past the first two months of P90X, you can start a hybrid program if you so desire. I have a schedule of a hybrid I did for awhile at http://www.pressplayfitness.com/members/m/articles/view/test. Ignore the 2nd Kettlebell workouts each day because that would be WAY too much for you while you are still in your first 90 days.

Hi Nancy,
I'm 29 and weigh 154lb. I'm interested in doing the p90x and insanity program. I don't know which program to do first. Can I do both programs together and how?
