Getting It Right
Getting It Right

I decided to write about this because today I’ve been paying for ‘doing it wrong’. You see any of us at any time can ‘get it wrong’. And for me it was pushing too hard. I have been so excited lately about how much my 51 year old body can do, I forgot that when my body ‘speaks’ to me about laying off a bit, I need to listen.
I’ve been adding some running in as ‘doubles’ action when the weather is nice. Now due to my chronic neck injury and a touch of arthritis in my right hip, I need to watch how much running I do at any time. But with a long spate of good weather here where I live, it’s just been too tempting to do too much of it.
By this morning, I was paying a price. I had headaches from the neck injury along with sharp neck pain. I had no energy and actually skipped a workout! I don’t skip workouts so this was BIG for me.
So for me ‘getting it right’ means finding the right mix of heavy lifting and high intensity interval training and even a little slow paced aerobics. And getting it right means listening to my body. Even if I have to skip a run now and then.
