Newcomers to P90X.

Apr 20th, 2010 | By Coach Chris | Category: Beyond The First 90 Days, Still Pressing Play with Coach Chris

Last night I was gamming with my buddy over XBL (Xbox Live) and he explained to me that he just finished his first workout, Chest & Back. He was a little down, because he expected to do “a hell of a lot better than that”. He is golfer, who plays on a college team, and due to his active life style thought he might be ahead of the game. He was sorely mistaken, and finally realized what I meant by P90X in no BS!

The reason I bring this up is because he told me he was thinking of putting the program off for a bit so that he can train up and get ready to hit the program for real. I actually hear this quite a bit. That first week can be extremely challenging, you just have to take it one step at a time. Take Nancy for example, after our first P90X Plyometric workout she wasn’t sure if the program was right for her. You just have to stick with it, and as Tony always says “do your best, and forget the rest”. You can’t expect to keep up with Tony and the other people in the vid right off the bat. There are days when I have trouble keeping up with vid. Just something to keep in mind, it doesn’t really matter how in-shape you are to begin with P90X is an eye opener for almost everyone.

  1. Hi Nancy,

I started P90X with my husband about a week ago and after the 3rd day I pulled a muscle in my right ab. Is it okay to continue the exercises without giving my body a large recovery break? I can do must stuff except when it comes to ABX. I’ve been hurting some and I just don’t want to stress myself out. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Julia

  2. Hi Julia,

I’d take a few days completely off. The reason why is that you use your abs even when you are doing other exercises particularly plyo, yoga and kenpo. Then start up again wherever your husband is at (I’m assuming he’ll just workout by himself for a few days) but avoid ARX for another week or so until you feel you can handle it.

  3. Hi Nancy,

I did end up taking a few days off and this morning was back on the wagon working out. I am doing well and much better. Thanks for the suggestion and I am looking forward to Yoga tomorrow.

    Thanks again,
    Julia

  4. You are very welcome Julia!
