When It’s Good to be Bad
When It’s Good to be Bad

I know that sounds funny but I’ve been giving this a bit more thought lately as I’ve seen some of my Facebook friends make comments about making poor food choices. When you fall off the ‘diet wagon’ you feel badly and that can make you more susceptable to falling off the diet wagon again.
My approach is to schedule in a cheat day once a week. For me that’s Sunday. My whole family cheats on their diet on Sunday and we never feel bad about it. That’s because we then turn around and eat very cleanly for the next 6 days. So at any given point in time, we eat a very healthy diet 86% of the time. And if you eat correctly over 80% of the time, you will be able to see weight loss (if that’s your goal).
Moreover, there is only so much cheating anyone will do on a cheat day. After awhile you just feel fat and bloated so you stop eating. And there is a positive physiological benefit to a cheat day. You challenge your metabolism with a significant surplus of calories. This keeps your metabolism from slipping into a perceived starvation mode and holding onto every calorie you consume.
If you’ve not been allowing yourself cheat days but find you occassionally sneak in a treat you feel badly about eating later, try the approach. I’m pretty sure you’ll be pleasently surprised with how well it works for you.
