Picture Perfect

Day0-Day150-Progression-375x200If you hang around here at all, you’ve probably picked up on the fact that I’m a BIG believer in taking lots of pictures.  The camera’s eye doesn’t lie.  And while most of us grimace when we take a look at our ‘before’ pictures, you will be amazed at the ‘after’ pictures.

I’ll be honest, even though I’ve gotten a tiny bit leaner than what the 150 day image shows, I have trouble ‘seeing’ it in the mirror.  Like many of you, after years of being fat I’m slowly adjusting to my new life of being fit.  And, perhaps, toughest of all is appreciating just how far I’ve come.

So take your pictures!  Take LOTS of pictures.  You’ll be glad you did.

  1. I’m a 53 year old woman with bad knees and cellulite. .. 5’6″ and 185 (recently lost 15 lbs by walking more). My question…can I successfully start P90X and (with my knees) and even dream of wearing shorts and bathing suit again without cringing when I look in the mirror? I fully realize I will never look like twenty, thiry or even forty again…but still………?

  2. Hi Tricia,

    I’m always honest to say that P90X is hard. Now you can, as I did, make modifications in the beginning. What I can’t tell is how ‘bad’ your knees are. What I’m wondering about is if you can do push ups from your knees or not. Most women (even some men) have to start by doing push ups from their knees so if your knees cannot tolerate that, I’d have to recommend a different program like Chalean Extreme which is a good runner up for P90X (I sometimes call it P90X for women). It’s not easy either but it is a bit easier than P90X.

    If you can take the push ups, then you’ll have to also modify the plyometrics routine. Tony has a gal doing modified moves and my husband who has a really bad knee still has to do the modified moves. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get really amazing results.

    I know when you get over 50 and you are out of shape you begin to wonder if it’s all downhill. I was there less than a year ago. Now I’m in the best shape of my life and that is considering chronic injuries I had to work around. You have to want it enough. And I think it’s best if you can find someone to do it with you. But if you apply yourself whether it’s P90X or Chalean Extreme, you can dramatically transform your body. And as you add lean mass (yes – I’m suggesting you add muscle) you’ll spark your metabolism and start burning fat. And that new muscle won’t look bulky on a woman but curvy and it even will help you lose the cellulite. The only way to lose cellulite is to burn fat and add muscle under the skin.

    If you met me in person, you would not think I’m 20 or 30. But you would think I look darn good for being over 50. I mean darn good. And I’d put up my abs and bum against just about any 25 year old and know I’d win that contest. So yes, it’s possible to wear shorts and even a bathing suit and look not only good, but great.
