Is the Cookie Diet a Fad or Useful Diet?

I get a lot of email asking me to render an opinion on different products.  So with that in mind, I’ll be reviewing products that I’ve been asked about in this new series of posts.  First on the list is the cookie diet which seems to be a hot new diet option.

Is the Cookie Diet a Fad or Useful Diet?
The premise of this diet is that you replace your breakfast, snacks and lunch with one or more of these cookies you buy.  You get 6 cookies to eat a day and you eat one whenever you get hungary.  The diet works two ways.  First you lose weight because you cut way back on calories.  With the 6 cookies each day and moderate dinner, you are only eating about 1200 calories each day – certainly enough to cause most people to lose noticeable weight.

Secondly, these cookies are supposed to curb your appetite so you don’t mind eating so few calories.  Dr. Sieber’s who created the cookie diet says he’s found a magic combination of amino acids that will turn off your hunger pangs.

But does it work?  Well if you follow if carefully, you should lose weight.  How well the cookies work to reduce or eliminate hungar is a personal observation.  But what does impress me is that this doctor has been baking up these cookies for 35 years now and he’s got a really long list of folks who swear by the cookie diet.

I don’t recommend the cookie diet for anyone doing P90X or Insanity as it would be too few calories.  But for someone on a lighter walking plan who’s looking to lose between 10 and 25 pounds in a month or two, this might just be the perfect solution.
